Route Overview

Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Begin your trek at Londorossi Gate, where you will meet your experienced guide and complete necessary registrations. Enter the enchanting rainforest and hike through verdant trails, marveling at the abundant flora and fauna. After approximately 4-5 hours of trekking, reach Mti Mkubwa Camp. Set up your spend the night surrounded by the tranquil sounds of the forest.

Altitude Profile: Start at around 2,100 meters (6,890 feet) and camp at approximately 2 meters (8,858 feet).

Camping Experience: Set up your tent in the designated campsite and enjoy the simplicity of camping in nature. Listen to the symphony of the rainforest and immerse yourself in the peaceful ambiance.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone as you ascend towards Shira 1 Camp. Experience the vastness of the landscape as you cross expansive plateaus and admire the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. After approximately 5-6 hours of trekking, reach Shira 1 Camp and settle into your campsite.

Altitude Profile: Ascend from approximately 2,700 meters (8,858 feet) to around 3,500 meters (11,483 feet).

Camping Experience: Marvel at the stunning views of the ruggedsite in the beauty of the alpine meadows and embrace the freedom of camping in the wilderness.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut

Continue your ascent through the alpine desert, characterized by rocky terrains and sparse vegetation. Pass by the striking Shira Cathedral and witness the unique geological features of the plateau. After approximately 5-7 hours of trekking, reach Moir Hut, nestled at of Lent Hills. Enjoy breathtaking sunset views of Kibo and acclimatize to the increasing altitude.

Altitude Profile: Climb from around 3,500 meters (11,483 feet) to approximately 4,200 meters (13,780 feet).

Camping Experience: Set up your tent insite at Moir Hut. Embrace the rugged beauty of the alpine desert and cherish the serenity of the surroundings.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Moir Hut

Take a well-deserved rest day at Moir Hut to acclimatize and prepare for the higher altitudes. Embark on a short acclimatization hike to explore the Lent Hills and admire the magnificent views of the surrounding peaks. Spend the rest of the day hydrating, and mentally preparing for the challenges ahead.

Altitude Profile: Spend an additional approximately 4,200 meters (13,780 feet).

Camping Experience: Enjoy an extra night camping at Moir Hut, gaining further appreciation for the alpine environment. Take in the silence and solitude of being immersed in nature.

Day 5: Moir Hut to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

Embark on a challenging day of trekking as you ascend to the iconic Lava Tower at 4,630 meters (15,190 feet). Marvel at the imposing volcanic rock formation and take a break to refuel. From there, descend to the scenic Barranco Camp, known for its picturesque surroundings. After approximately 6-8 hours of trekking, reach Barranco Camp and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

Altitude Profile: Ascend to 4,630 meters (15,190 feet) at Tower, then descend to approximately 3,950 meters (12,960 feet) at Barranco Camp.

Camping Experience: Settle into your campsite at Barranco Camp, surrounded by towering cliffs and stunning vistas. Take time to savor the beauty of the campsite's location.

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

Embark on a thrilling trek through the Great Barranco Wall, a challenging yet rewarding section of the route. Marvel at the breathtaking views from the top before descending to Karanga Valley, a beautiful oasis in the high desert. From there, continue your ascent to Barafu Camp, the last camp before the summit. After approximately 8-9 hours of trekking, reach Barafu Camp and prepare for the final push to the peak.

Altitude Profile: Ascend to approximately 4,680 meters (15,) at Barafu Camp.

Camping Experience: Set up your tent at Barafu Camp and relish the stunning sunset views over the plains below. Prepare for the midnight summit attempt with a sense of anticipation and excitement.
