Tarangire National Park

Day Trip

Day after day of cloudless skies at Tarangire National Park, the fierce sun sucks the moisture from the landscape,  baking the earth a dust red, the withered grass as brittle as straw. The Tarangire River has shriveled to shadow of its wet season self but it is choked with wildlife. Thirsty nomads have wandered hundreds of parched kilometres knowing that here always there is water to drink.

Herds up to 300 elephants in the park scratch the dry river bed for underground streams while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. It is the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem – a smorgasbord for predators and one place in Tanzania where dry country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are well seen.

After an early morning tea / coffee and tour briefing in your hotel, depart to Tarangire National Park around 08. 00 am. En route, you will take in the changing landscape as Arusha’s Urban jungle is replaced by wide open plains and quaint Maasai villages.

Upon arrival at the entry gate you will stop to sign, meantime poses under a gigantic Baobab where you will spot mischievous monkeys darting about in the shade then enter the park for full day animal sightings and you will see the eponymous Tarangire River lined with Acacia, Baobab trees and exotic wildlife species gather for drinking, all these will spice up your day.

Breath-taking at one of the park’s picnic areas while enjoying your picnic lunch keep an eye on your food though, as the local monkey population will be only too happy to make off with tasty treat if given the opportunity.

Late in the afternoon around 16. 00 hrs you will be driven back to Arusha City and dropped off for Overnight stay and Dinner at your hotel.
